A five-man Court of Appeal panel sitting Abuja has upheld the ruling of the gubernatorial election tribunal in Rivers state. In a 110-page ruling delivered by Justice M.B. Nigerian Newspapers: 10 things you need to know this Monday morning

Good morning! Here are 10 things you need to know this morning:
1. The Federal Government has blamed the immediate past administration of Goodluck Jonathan for the current state of the economy, as well as the depreciation in the Naira exchange rate. In a statement by the Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, the government said the current development was a direct consequence of the unbelievable mismanagement of the economy and the mindless looting of the national treasury under the immediate past Administration.
2.The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, on Sunday, said if the government of Muhammadu Buhari must win the war against corruption, it must probe all security votes of past Presidents and Heads of State from 1984 to date. The party while making this call also called for the establishment of a National Truth Commission.
3.Report says no fewer than 20 members of the Shi’ite sect were killed on Sunday as the military cracked down on the sect for blocking the highways during their public procession in Zaria, Kaduna State. Those allegedly killed include the leader of the Kano Center, Sheikh Muhammad Turi, Dr. Mustapha Sa’eed, Malam Ibrahim Usman and Sister Jummai Gilima. Also killed are Sayyid Aliyu, the son of the leader of the Movement, Sayyid Ibraheem Zakzaky; the wife of Sayyid Ibraheem Zakzaky, Malama Zeenat Ibraheem and ten others. Zakzaky himself is said to be missing.
4.The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, will today arraign the embattled former National Security Adviser, NSA, Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd), and others before an Abuja High Court on fresh charges bordering on alleged illegal diversion of public funds, particularly the funds meant for the execution of war against terrorism.
5.Former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chief Olabode George, has refuted media reports that he collecting N100 million from former Minister of Finance (State), Mr Bashir Yuguda, saying it is another blatant falsehood, stripped of any iota of truth. He said the report was “mischievous and deliberately fraudulent.”
6.Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State, Sunday, alleged that the Federal Government was planning to use the military panel it has set up to upturn his victory as the State Governor.. Fayose who was speaking in Lagos also faulted the military panel headed by Maj-Gen Adeniyi Oyebade to look at the roles of the military in the June 21 governorship election in Ekiti said , saying that “The military report holds no water in law.”
7.The Enugu State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has dragged Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi to court over his intention to set up caretaker committees for the 17 council areas in the State. The party that has filed a suit at the Enugu State High Court described the plan as unacceptable.
8.The Rivers State Police Command says it has arrested two notorious armed robbers who confessed to have been involved in series of armed robberies and kidnappings in Port Harcourt and environs. The Police also said the suspects also confessed to the recent gruesome murder of late CSP Clifford Igwegbe, who was the Divisional Police Officer of Rumuokoro Division.
9.Each player of the Nigeria’s U-23 team, has been paid $4,000, after they defeated Algeria 2-1 to win their first ever U-23 AFCON title in Dakar, Senegal. Each player at the end of the day received a total of $12,000. They received $4,000 for the final, $3,000 for the semi-final, $2,000 for the opening match win against Mali and $1,000 each for draws against Egypt and Algeria.
10.The Okerenkoko community, Gbaramatu Kingdom, in Warri South-West Local Government Area, Delta State, has given asked the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to continue with its probe of Chief Government Ekpemupolo, alias Tompolo, over the alleged N13 billion paid by Federal Government for the acquisition of the Maritime University land in the community. Speaking through Chief Michael Johnny, yesterday in Warri, the community said now that Tompolo had admitted that the alleged N13 billion was approved by the FG, the EFCC should ask him why Okerenkoko only received N360 million for the land.
